Gait Analysis & Orthotics
So Healthy are pleased to be able to offer a full gait analysis (functional foot assessment) for our Matlock patients.
The foot is incredibly complex – with 25% of the bones in your body being located in your feet. We are sure you already know how hard your feet work every day just standing still, not to mention the average 8-10,000 steps you make each day. The function of your feet – optimal or otherwise impact the way the rest of your body moves as part of chain of movement. Consequently, poor foot mechanics can lead to imbalances elsewhere in the body and your feet.
A dynamic (walking) assessment of your foot provides us with exceptional detail in analysing your footprint and may help us to explain why foot pain is present and why other issues have arisen, such as knee, hip or low back pain. We are keen for you to be out of pain, but just as importantly, get you back to full function and for you to maintain it! Part of our job is to help you understand and remove all the stressors from your life and your body including aberrant footwear and then supporting optimal foot movement.
How do we do this? We use a sophisticated gait analysis system alongside a clinical exam to carry out a comprehensive appraisal of your foot function. The GaitScan™ system comprises a plate covered with over 4,000 tiny sensors that accurately measure the distribution of pressures through the sole of the foot, both standing (static) and walking (dynamic). The resultant 2D or 3D visual representation of your feet are included in a detailed analysis report. If we recommend orthotics for you, the wealth of information from the gait scan and our clinical exam are combined to produce an individual prescription which is used by the laboratories to manufacture your custom-made orthotics.
To book an appointment please call 01629 888323 and ask for a gait assessment. The assessment takes approximately 20 minutes.
