Shoulder & Arm Pain Treatment in Matlock

Shoulder and arm pain can make everyday activities more difficult, from lifting and carrying to working, exercising or simply getting comfortable.

The shoulder is one of the body's most mobile joints and works closely with the neck, upper back, shoulder blade and surrounding muscles. Problems in any of these areas can contribute to pain, stiffness or restricted movement.

At So Healthy Matlock, our chiropractors take the time to understand your symptoms and how they are affecting your everyday life. We can assess your individual circumstances and discuss whether chiropractic care may be appropriate for you.

Common shoulder and arm problems

Shoulder and arm pain can have many possible causes. Some problems develop gradually through repetitive activity or changes in how you use your body, while others may follow an injury.

We commonly see people with concerns including:
• Shoulder pain and stiffness
• Rotator cuff-related pain
• Shoulder impingement
• Tennis or golfer's elbow
• Neck-related arm pain
• Muscle and soft-tissue problems
• Pain following sporting or repetitive activities

Because similar symptoms can have different causes, an individual assessment is important before deciding what treatment may be appropriate.

Rotator cuff and shoulder pain

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that helps support and move the shoulder.

Pain can sometimes develop following repetitive use, changes in activity or increased physical demands. You may notice pain when lifting your arm, reaching overhead or carrying objects, together with stiffness or reduced movement.

Your chiropractor will consider the shoulder alongside the neck, upper back and surrounding muscles when assessing your symptoms.

Depending on your individual circumstances, treatment may include hands-on techniques, soft-tissue work, movement advice and appropriate exercises.

Neck-related arm pain

Pain, tingling, pins and needles or numbness travelling from the neck into the arm can sometimes be associated with irritation of structures around the neck.

You may have heard terms such as slipped disc, disc bulge, disc prolapse or herniated disc used to describe disc problems. These symptoms can have different causes and require appropriate assessment.

If you are experiencing arm symptoms alongside neck pain, numbness, tingling or weakness, tell your chiropractor during your appointment. They will consider your symptoms and health history and advise whether chiropractic care is appropriate or whether further medical assessment is needed.

Tennis and golfer's elbow

Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow are terms commonly used to describe pain around the outside or inside of the elbow.
They can be associated with repetitive use of the muscles and tendons around the forearm and may affect the elbow, forearm, wrist or hand.

Although the pain may be felt around the elbow, your chiropractor may also consider how the wrist, shoulder, neck and upper limb are functioning as part of your assessment.

Depending on your circumstances, treatment may include hands-on techniques, soft-tissue work, exercise and advice about modifying activities.

How we can help at So Healthy

At So Healthy, we don't assume that every shoulder or arm problem requires the same treatment.

Your chiropractor will first discuss your symptoms and relevant health history before carrying out an appropriate physical assessment. Depending on what they find, your care may include:
• Chiropractic manipulation or mobilisation
• Soft-tissue techniques
• Movement and exercise advice
• Stretching and strengthening exercises
• Posture and ergonomic guidance
• Advice about modifying activities

Where appropriate, our Sports Therapist can also help with muscular and soft-tissue problems, particularly where symptoms are related to exercise, sport or repetitive activity. Your care will be tailored to your symptoms, preferences and goals.

I have been using the so healthy wellness centre for many many years now and having a quality chiropractor available to see each month has helped me to keep playing tennis 🎾, plus doing many others things that I don’t think I’d be able to do if I didn’t have these regular checkups and adjustments. Many thanks
